Today we had a visit from Micheál Coughlan, a heritage specialist from Heritage in Schools Heritage Ireland . He spoke to both the Junior and Senior classes about biodiversity, focusing on what we can find in our own school grounds and local area.
Micheál brought each group outside to explore the fields and hedgerows. The Junior Room spotted the common frog, butterflies, native animals. The Senior classes explored gorse and other native trees and learned about blanket bogs and how restoring them can help tackle climate change.
It was a fantastic day with great weather and a brilliant opportunity for the children to connect with nature and understand the importance of protecting biodiversity. Thank you Micheál for a fantastic day of learning!
